Interlude
'Interlude' is a variable edition of five prints from an etched and engraved zinc plate with carborundum. The concept of this body of work is based on a surreal, semi-lucid dream I had within the window of a ten-minute snooze. I see this moment as a familiar interlude between night and day, facilitated by my alarm, hence the glowing, very pale blue palette intended to be evocative of a phosphorescent digital clock display. I was interested in pursuing the dream in print as an artefact of this in-between sense of temporality which would ordinarily be forgotten once the day had begun. These five prints range from soft white to electric blue as the edition number increases. There is a poem that I wrote ahead of producing this work, too, which elucidates it even further. Please find this below. Ten-minute snooze, Half-awoken by the hastening murmurs, Rapid beats sent through my body, Vibrations stir me in succession, A sonic accompaniment, To the phosphorescence of my alarm display. Commanding rhythms fail to upright me, I am not yet entirely conscious of the urgency, Nor my subordination to the unremitting toll of time. Glowing oil seeps from the digits, Illuminating all else lying dormant here, Beneath the waning shadows of a near-completed night. Pale blue radiates from liquid light, Drenching my vision, It melts and oozes out of the numbers and seeps down my bedside cabinet, Saturating the carpeted floor and crawling over me, In my interrupted slumber, I reach for a familiar button: Ten-minute snooze.
