Extracts

'Extracts' is a variable edition of monoprints from an etched aluminium and collagraph plate. Through a hybrid of different inking and printing processes, I sought to develop a new language of embossed textures, layered forms, and visceral surfaces. As always, I am driven by staging conditions in which a hidden performance takes place in ink between paper and plate, surface and substrate. The theatrical and playful nature of printmaking within the concealment and revelation of the printed image is particularly inherent within this edition, where I combined intaglio and relief approaches to printmaking, including sugar-lift, hard- and soft-ground, and collagraph layers which comprise extracts of previous prints. This cyclical notion of reusing and regenerating aspects of old artworks into the substrates from which new prints can be taken is also crucial to this edition.
